Gangs & Guns Training Symposium | Feb 2021

Our 2021 event will be a 2-day Training Symposium on Thursday and Friday, February 11th and 12th, 2021

Gangs & Guns is going virtual!  We hope this will be a unique experience for our attendees as they are able to see our excellent presenters without many of you having to fly in and out of the Lower Mainland, BC.

Our confirmed presenters are:

Negotiations are continuing and we hope to have the rest of the agenda confirmed within the next few weeks.

Date and times:

Thursday and Friday, February 11th and 12th, 2021

Our draft agenda is being completed and login will be 7:30am PT, with a welcome to the conference at 8:00am PT.  The first speaker will be presenting at 8:15am and we hope to be winding up at 4:30pm PT.  These times will be the same for both Thursday and Friday.

Individual rate for registrations – $199 USD

Group rate for 10 to 30 registrations – $1800 USD

All registrations will be accepted online through Safer Schools Together website.  Payment can be made through PayPal with either a credit card or PayPal account; or you can pay by cheque/money order.  If you choose to pay by cheque or money order, it must received 30 days prior to the conference to secure your spot.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be submitted by email at least 30 days prior to the conference start date and will be subject to a $50.00 administration fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made within 30 days of the conference start date; however, you are invited to send a replacement provided you notify Safer Schools Together of the name substitution. Refunds will not be provided for registrants who fail to attend the conference or a portion of the conference.

It is the sole responsibility of the delegate to cancel any travel or accommodation reservations.

This session is intended for staff and community partners who support school safety and critical incident/trauma-related matters including:

  • Principals, Vice Principals and individuals who support school safety, culture and climate
  • Educators and school administrators according to school/district needs
  • Community partners who support threat risk assessment and violence prevention (e.g. RCMP, municipal police, child protection social worker, child and youth mental health worker)

*Note:  This training includes challenging topics and subject matter that may be a contextual trigger for individuals who have recently been exposed to traumatic incidents in their personal/professional capacity.  

Training Description:

  • What is trauma, and how this impacts youth?
  • Understand what kind of trauma youth may have been exposed to while physical distancing.
  • Students already on our ‘radar’ pre-pandemic – what are we doing to support them?
  • Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP) and the students return to class.
  • The importance of staying connected with High-Risk and Vulnerable Youth.
  •  Changes in baseline behaviour currently seen by Safer Schools Together regarding High-Risk and Vulnerable Youth.
  • Providing links to various resources.
  • A question log to address any issues that need further explanation.

Cancellation Policy

Safer Schools Together ( SST ) reserves the right to cancel or reschedule training. If SST cancels or reschedules training due to weather or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of SST, you are entitled to a full refund, but SST is not responsible for travel arrangements, travel fees, or any expenses incurred by you as a result of such cancellation. If SST cancels a training in which you are enrolled, you will be contacted at the email address you provided when registering, so please be sure to provide a valid email address.

Any cancellation or transfer made by a participant needs to be in writing. If the registration fee has already been paid, a credit will be applied for a future training course unless a refund is specifically requested by the agency at the time of cancellation.
