Annie Brosseau, School and District Counsellor

The session is helping school to feel more The training allows schools to feel better equipped to deal with situations of concern. It is important to remember that calls for help should always be taken seriously.

Shelley Martland, Teacher

The training gave me the tools and understanding to help prepare my school community. I learned an incredible amount about some of the ways in which the young people I work with daily communicate differently than what I am familiar with. It made me realize that I need to become curious about their lived realities in order to support them and build a positive and caring school!

Barry Bach, Student Success Coach

I attended the Modern Day Predator Webinar on June 15, 2022. The topic was quite difficult but extremely important. I held back tears more than once listening to Tiana and Carol speak. I greatly appreciate how the moderator took the time to explain that it’s okay to step away from your computer or do what you need to take care of your mental health. To me, that displayed what a terrific program SST is. I’m greatly inspired to implement a program at the school I work for, Michigan Online School, that helps kids understand the dangers that exist both in the online and real world environments and to help them practice avoiding such situations. Thank you so very much for an amazing presentation. Sending much love to Carol Todd!!!

Layla Cochrane, Program Manager

This workshop is so important for all parents and educators of children and teenagers. We must be more aware of the latest dangers online and communicate with our kids about it in a way that supports them. Amanda Todd was an innocent child who was tormented by a man half way across the world and her own peers that she called friends. This could happen to any of our kids. Our kids are simply not safe online and we need to do better at protecting them.

Maryann Tolzien, School Nurse

This webinar was full of needed info for educators and parents.
Highly recommend it!!!

Dana Takkale, School Counsellor

This was informative, helpful and a good refresher to very important topics that we do not speak about enough. Daily I encounter students who are isolated from the real world and entrenched in online activity, it is scary and getting more information on things to notice and how to get through to them is crucial in this current world. Thank you.

Tazmin Manji, Vice Principal

The session on “The Modern Day Predator”, really gave me better insight into how these predators use social media to lure our kiddos. My commitment is to learn more about social media platforms that students are using, so that I can better help them navigate the downside of technology. I am also thankful to learn about the SEE App-I downloaded the App immediately after the workshop finished!

Nicole St-Jean, Anti-Human Trafficking Liaison / Public Educator

Even though I myself present to school aged children on this topic; the way in which the information was presented was new and fresh.

Bailey Smith, Temporary Health Promotion & Prevention Worker

This training has been helpful in understanding what to look for in students as a school-based worker. I appreciate the resources provided. I am feeling excited and more informed about supporting the community.

Jill Barker, Vice Principal

Thank you for your presentation. It has provided me with additional ways to support my students and to identify when at-risk behaviors are demonstrated.

Abby Majendie, Head of School

The workshops are so well-organized and facilitated by experts in the field who also know how to conduct engaging sessions. I have been bragging about the sessions with everyone who will listen.  Congrats on organizing such meaningful and applicable professional development! It is heartening to have such quality PD in this vital area for our schools and students. Thank you.

Todd Powell, Vice Principal

I have taken numerous SST trainings and have been thoroughly impressed with each one.  When school/student-focus workshops come available, I strongly suggest to my teachers that they engage with SST.  Highly recommend all SST training!

Boma Mobote, Youth Engagement Coordinator

This symposium educated me on gangs and their affiliates in our community, trauma-based situations, mental health and other vital topics that are important to be aware of, especially working in the human service field.

Bentley Johannson, Corporal

The symposium was well done, thanks!

Damien Ramm, Government of Northwest Territories

While participating in the symposium, many ideas and applications of others’ ideas were “sparked”. Moving forward, the information gained will help increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our emerging programs this coming year. Thank you SST!

David Murray, Canadian Border Services Agency

I would say that the 13th Annual Gangs and Guns Training Symposium provided valuable training and law enforcement interaction in a time when such opportunities are essentially non-existent. You were able to bring together participants both nationally and internationally and made the experience as interactive and informative as possible. Thank you for making this work as well as it did.

Richard Primrose, Assistant Director of Student Life

As an administrator at an independent school, I believe it is incredibly important that we educate our kids on how to navigate the online world. With so many of our students communicating through social media, we want to give our kids the tools necessary to make safe choices, and to avoid putting themselves in compromising situations. The SST Student Presentation struck the perfect tone, balancing a hopeful, student-centered approach, with the necessary messages surrounding the uglier sides of social media, such as sextortion and the risks of sharing inappropriate content. This presentation helped contribute to a positive school culture and was very well-received. I would highly recommend this presentation for any school.
