SOCIAL MEDIA AWARENESS / MANAGEMENT TO ENSURE SAFE & CARING SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
TRAINING FOR STAFF
90-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A session
Now more than ever, the digital and social media world has flowed into the classroom and school environment. This changing landscape has had positives for learning but has also had a multitude of negative implications on a school’s culture and climate. Staff and student online safety and the permanence of digital tattoos will be discussed along with how to recognize and respond to cyberbullying.
The use of social media outside the classroom undoubtedly follows our students into the classroom. As frontline professionals, it is key to keep up with evolving online youth trends. As staff members, it is important to maintain baseline levels of knowledge in relation to how technology and social media are currently used by our students and children. Best practices and current policies from the field will be shared including: staff professional and personal use of social media and guidelines around interacting with students online.
Suggestions will be given to staff to help continue valuable discussion post-presentation with students. This presentation also compliments the Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS) framework.
Safer Schools Together has always delivered high-quality, up-to-date, and relevant information about all things digital that hooks all participants right from the get-go! They recognize that Digital Citizenship Education is a community effort and that the impact is more powerful when students have multiple trusted adults they can discuss issues with, and when they’re hearing the same message reinforced both at home and in school. We are very impressed with both delivery and content and we look forward to having them back in the future.
