Sydnee Mena

Sydnee earned a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs from California State University Maritime Academy and is currently a Threat Analyst for Safer Schools Together.

While attending Cal Maritime, Sydnee completed an internship with Central California Intelligence Center and continued employment with them through her graduation. The position focused on conducting site security assessments for houses of worship and schools, providing risk factors, and providing recommendations on how to mitigate those risks. Sydnee also created pamphlets and posters for local law enforcement regarding hoax threats. She worked closely with retired law enforcement, FBI agents, and TSA agents.

ICDTA®-Hakan-Baris-Umut

Hakan Baris UMUT

After receiving his bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Bilkent University, Hakan developed an interest in open-source intelligence. He began an internship as an analyst for a company in Belgium where his work focused on transnational crime, political risk, and security concerning various geopolitical locations like the Americas, Middle East, and Caucasia.

Following his internship, he volunteered for a research center in Switzerland, where he monitored and reported illicit drug trafficking-related activities in Turkey.

Hakan now works as a Threat Analyst at Safer Schools Together.

Ashley Trac - ICDTA®

Ashley Trac

Ashley completed a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences with a major in Criminology and a certificate in Legal Studies from Simon Fraser University. She is currently completing an advanced certificate in Forensic Investigations with a focus on Crime and Intelligence Analysis at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Specialized courses Ashley completed during her post-secondary studies include cybercrime, forensic psychology, crime mapping, and the internet for investigation.

Prior to joining Safer Schools Together in 2022, Ashley worked at a non-profit legal center as a legal administrative assistant, where she provided legal information to children and youth and connected them to legal advocates and lawyers.

In her free time, Ashley works as a Crisis Intervention Worker with the RCMP Victim Services unit, where she provides immediate crisis intervention assistance to victims, their families, and/or witnesses of trauma and/or crime, in cases such as sudden deaths, suicides, family disputes, and domestic assaults.

Gurveer Kalkett

Gurveer completed a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Criminology from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He is currently completing a Bachelor in Technology in Forensic Investigations focusing on Crime and Intelligence Analysis at BCIT. His studies include courses in project management for investigation, tactical analysis, strategic analysis, and cybercrime. Gurveer worked as a surveillance operator for Great Canadian Gaming before joining Safer Schools Together where he is currently a Threat Analyst.

Amanda Lee - ICDTA®

Amanda Lee

Amanda got accepted into the BCIT Forensic Science Advanced Certificate Program in Spring/Summer 2018. In Winter 2021, Amanda pursued the BCIT Forensic Crime and Intelligence Analysis Advanced Certificate Program in tandem. Prior to BCIT, Amanda completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology from the University of Victoria. Prior to joining Safer Schools Together in late October 2022, Amanda worked in the casino and hospitality industry for 6 years. Amanda started in the Cage Department and later transferred to the Surveillance Department in management.

Amanda also worked part-time with Paladin Security as a BC Hydro Security Command Centre Operator, conducting alarm monitoring and access control. Amanda developed skills in utilizing integrated software systems for conducting surveillance and investigations in money laundering crimes and various threats. In her free time, Amanda enjoys working on her small business project making wax melts. Amanda also enjoys going on road trips, hiking, and camping in the summer, and snowboarding in the winter.

ICDTA®-Melissa-Tecson

Melissa Tecson

Melissa got accepted into BCIT’s Btech Crime and Intelligence Analyst program in Fall 2022. Prior to BCIT, she was in the Criminology program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and finished her last semester in Summer 2022. Prior to joining Safer Schools Together in late October 2022, Melissa worked as a Customer Service Representative for a gun range in Langley.

Melissa is knowledgeable in firearms and has gained valuable customer service skills throughout her career in the hospitality industry. In her free time, Melissa competes in five-pin bowling tournaments outside of the province.

Melissa also enjoys swimming with her parents, exploring new places and binge watching the latest shows on streaming platforms.

Jessica Easton

Jessica completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Applied Criminology from Douglas College. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Investigations with a focus on Crime and Intelligence Analysis at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Specialized course work focusing on open-source intelligence gathering sparked a particular interest and Jessica began pursuing that passion which brought her to Safer Schools Together in March 2023 as a Threat Analyst.

Eagle Li

Eagle completed a Computer Information and Technology certificate at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. He is currently completing a bachelor’s in technology in Forensic Investigations focusing on Crime and Intelligence Analysis at BCIT. Prior to joining Safer Schools Together in March of 2023, Eagle worked in the customer service industry for 6 years.
In his spare time, Eagle enjoys playing video games and at one point, he even live-streamed on Twitch. He also enjoys watching true crime documentaries, studying geography, and learning more about random facts and stories.

Meghan Holmes-Hannah

Meghan completed a Batchelor of Arts and Social Sciences with a major in Criminology and Certificate in Police Studies from Simon Fraser University. After graduation, Meghan decided to pursue her dream of becoming an analyst and enrolled in the Crime Analysis and Intelligence Advanced Certificate at BCIT.
Currently, Meghan is finishing the BCIT CIA Advanced Certificate, while working as a Threat Analyst with Safer Schools Together. In her free time, she also volunteers with the Coquitlam RCMP.
